I've been a technology consultant since 1974. I've learned, working with engineers of all stripes, that the secret to dealing effectively with complex situations is in having a good model.

What's makes a model good or bad? I think the most useful quality of a good model is predictiveness. That is, it tells you what to expect under various conditions.

To tell the truth, I don't know if the Hero/Coach model is the only one that works. But I can tell you this: It's worked - and continues to work - to make my  marriage more glorious and fulfilling than I ever imagined it could be!
